My PhD work focuses on the collaborative edition of geographic data. This issue is of importance for helping communities build specific-purpose geographic databases (e.g. public/pedestrian transportation, ecology, biodiversity). NMAs like IGN also are interested in this technique to help data collectors update their databases. In both cases, contributors may possess different points of view which may cause inconsistencies in the content. Another important aspect is the assessment of quality of collaboratively generated content. Our approach takes into account two existing worlds to handle both challenges. For NMAs, a key element is the definition of specifications for data acquisition that details unambiguously how to observe the real world and represent it through database objects. For Wikis, an important element is the evaluation of user’s contributions and their automatic reconciliation for producing a consistent content. A key aspect of our proposal is a formal model to express specifications for user generated spatial content, similar to NMA specifications but with more elements dedicated to facilitating automatic consistency checking, fusion of various editions, and comparison with reference data. These additional specifications elements are for instance the definition of relationships with reference data and data integrity constraints. A first result is a method to automatically propose specifications items based on user keywords using Wikipedia categories/infoboxes, WordNet, and a NMA model. Another aspect of our proposal is a strategy for evaluation and fusion of editions on the server side.
